The Award for Best Research in Architecture and Engineering – CEU Ángel Herrera was granted on January 20, 2025, to the project "Design of an Experimental Community in the Panlap-Kunsho Corridor, Sierra Leone." This recognition will help continue supporting the 10 beneficiary families, two of whom have already completed their homes.

The 2026 working trip continued the long-term cooperation between CEU and UNIMAK, promoting new educational, health and community development initiatives. The trip reinforced the interdisciplinary model of training, research and action that defines the project.

The 2025 working trip strengthened the collaboration between CEU San Pablo University and the University of Makeni through new initiatives in health, architecture, communication and social innovation. Students and professors worked together with local communities to continue developing sustainable projects in Sierra Leone

The construction of the experimental community in Worrhe continues to advance, with some families making progress and preparing the buildings for the rainy season. The materialization of the project is finally beginning to take shape through the collaboration and work of all participants.

The Social Action Fund promotes student-led initiatives that generate a positive social impact in Makeni by providing financial support to innovative community development projects proposed within the University of Makeni. The programme provides funding of up to €1,000 per project and supports initiatives in health, sustainability, education and entrepreneurship through a joint USPCEU–UNIMAK selection committee.

The last working trip was this June 2024, the projects continue to evolve. New urban areas are incorporated into the study of habitability conditions and new collaboration proposals are making their way on this trip. Follow the news and updates to find out how it evolves!

The programme promotes women’s health through initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, menstrual health, psycho-emotional support and maternal and child healthcare, strengthening prevention, education and community wellbeing in Sierra Leone.

In 2025, the Infectious Diseases Laboratory was established at UNIMAK, including the training of academic and technical staff in diagnostic equipment. The laboratory strengthens local healthcare services and supports the early detection of diseases affecting children in Sierra Leone.

The research consists of the design of a small community in the environment of the City of Makeni in Sierra Leone. A new settlement of 10 families is proposed in one of the existing villages in the Panlap-Kunshu corridor. The design is a cross-cutting approach to the 2030 Agenda.
